disjunction
a rather disjunctive rambling
{ it is the experience of an intense poem from another time and place uttered into your ear by a person five hundred and forty-one miles away (a person whose presence you long for) as you walk down a street of your neighborhood on a cold and sunny sunday afternoon }
re: disjunctive writing
‘…apparently disjointed and even vacant (which is to say, seemingly ‘about’ nothing at all). yet it is identifiably a passionate and extremely concentrated act of attention to a tangible (ie, perceived) world whose most salient characteristics (multiplicity and uncertainty) are aspects of its inexplicableness…’
the disjunction of writing (and perhaps reading)
the place of writing
what writing lays down on a page
how it carries sometimes fleeting moments memories experiences
into other spaces, new times, etc
an overlap of multiplicities
the experience of writing
the pencil and the page
the head and heart space
set in the middle of a room
in the middle of where
transformation
‘language is much more like a sort of being than a means’ - maurice merleau-ponty
we create a type of logic rationality reason for ourselves
it has been in many ways created for us
we speak it into being
we write it into being
we act it into being
we think it into being
so to deliberate openly about this and its own disjunction (does it break with the logic or further it? can i actually do anything outside of a logic? is every seeming illogic its own logic?)
to expose the seams exposes the il/logic
allow breaking in our own writing
breaking in ourselves
acknowledge the way our mental space can flow between multiple places and memories at times in rapid successions overlaps
it isn’t the fragmenting of modernity. the crowd streaming past. the barrage of images advertisements etc and it isn’t the simple juxtaposition of a text to an image. text to another text. or anything else that clashes as it comes from different places.
it is more the threads that connect vastly different spaces memories and experiences.
the flow of disjunctions
what are the threads? perhaps the connection is the emotion experienced. something that cannot be so easily explained or articulated (to others, to yourself)
memories brought to mind : for instance there is the willow tree by the small stream down a road in the neighborhood of your youth, a place you haven’t thought of in years, suddenly the image of this place flares up while lost, kissing somebody. a kiss you are deeply engaged in. a kiss you do not want to end. not the mental wanderings of escape rather the intensity producing the images. what is the connection? can connections be discerned/determined? are these connections another production?
{a question of what is in focus. how wide are the circles of confusion?}
